Grandos, foaled in 1981, passed his two year-old Hanoverian stallion inspections in Verden before being imported by Mrs. Gafford. Upon his arrival at St. Georg he commenced his competition career and proved himself to be an even tempered and honest competitor. He competed in-hand only once at the VADACC Richmond Breed Show in 1987 where he was 1st in-hand and under saddle for stallions and the Grand Champion of the show under the German Judge Herr Manfred Lopp. Grandos formed a memorable partnership with the late Mr. Shelton Gafford, competing at 1st through 4th levels with numerous wins and placings. Grandos finished out his competition career with Mrs. Gafford at Prix St. Georg. He earned his lifetime breeding approval in accordance with the German Oldenburg Verband's regulations through his dressage competition at Prix St. Georg. Grandos has been selectively bred to quality mares to produce outstanding offspring of correct type and superior disposition. Although he breeds few mares a year, he has had a premium foal every year for 10 of the last 11 years with two premiums in 2000. His three grandchildren were premium foals as well. Grandos consistently passes on his exceptional rideabilty to each offspring. His foals have proven to be versatile with offspring in both the dressage and jumping world. Only a limited amount of Grandos off springs have been shown. Some noteworthy accomplishments are as follows: In 1997, Grand Elegance was the Reserve Champion Mare at Dressage at Lexington. Grand Event was the champion filly at the Dressage at River's Bend Breed Show. In 2000, the Grandos son Grand Memory had a very successful show season as a weanling in-hand. He was 2nd at the Upperville Colt and Horse Show, 1st at Dressage at Lexington, 1st at PVDA Breed Show, Colt Champion at PVDA, and Young Horse Reserve Champion at PVDA. He ended the year in the USDF breeders Championships in Devon, where as the only foal competing against yearlings, he placed 10th. Grandos also won the get-of-sire class at the PVDA horse show. In addition to those already mentioned, Grand Battle, Grand Jester, Grand Missile, and Grand Savant have also been campaigned, always finishing in the ribbons. His daughter Grand Dream is a show hunter on the INDIO circuit and has been champion several times in the green divisions. Grandos' lineage can be traced easily back to the 1880's and the foundation breeding of the Hanoverian Verband. |
